USPS is in dire need of reforms to stay afloat. USPS mailboxes in many areas have simply outlived their usefulness making the remaining boxes even more costly to maintain. There has been a significant decline in mail volume as fewer Americans send letters and cards or utilize alternative delivery services for packages. The removal of mailboxes is not widespread, it did not start recently, and it is not an attempt at voter suppression ahead of the 2020 election cycle. In some instances, the timeframe for completion of repairs or replacement can depend on the current supply of new boxes. In these cases, access was either temporarily restricted or the box was temporarily removed, for the safety of our customers. The boxes in question may have sustained damages, and as a result, mail could not be securely deposited. Any time we are made aware of damage to our blue collection boxes, we take immediate steps to make repairs or provide a replacement box as quickly as possible.
